On a last note, I bought a spare Bleed screw if any fellow Z4 owners in Central Scotland get caught out like it did. Do coolant bleeding after replacing sensor o-ring. You should block that hole with some rag or piece of sponge while you have sensor out and replace that o-ring, if not then coolant will pour out. The one i replaced it with and no dice was also type 2. The coolant level sensor in the 2002 (facelifted) e46 325xi was Type 2. The winshield reservoir sensor in the 2002 e46 325xi was also type 1. Type 1 (both coolant level and winshield resevoir sensor were this type in the e46 323i 1999) does not have a black shroud around it. Niether of these sensors turned light off.ģ) There were two sensor types, and they fit easily in the same slots so i presume they are just an upgrade to the sensor and are compatible? they look like they do the same thing two metal prongs with discontinuity in a glass bubble that likely makes contact when in magnetic field. Light stayed on, windshield fluid light came on(left it unplugged), swapped them back, coolant low light still on, windshield fluid light now off.Ģ) took both the sensors from my 1999 323i that i am parting out(When doing work on car i was 2 hours away so just ordered new level sensor, now im back at my house with 323i) windshield fluid level and expansion tank sensor(Expansion tank had ruptured when i stopped driving it/decided to part out so that sensor might be screwed) are same sensors in it(although i dont know history) and is same as windshield level sensor on the 2002 325xi. ![]() 1) swapped windshield coolant level sensor with the working windshield reservoir sensor, it was a direct and easy swap(i undid the one winshield fluid resevoir bolt to make it easier) ![]()
